New Record for Passenger Movements

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport has just recorded an annual total of 351,576 passenger movements for the 12 month period ending 30 May 2013. This is a new record eclipsing the 327,705 annual total for the period ending 30 June 2012.

The passenger numbers increased by some 10% compared to the same period ending April 2012. Airport Manager Neil Weatherson said, “This is a great result for the airport and bodes well for a strong year with passenger numbers expected to top 400,000 by the end of June 2014.”

“The continued strong growth in airline capacity and new destinations, such as Newcastle, has continued to assist the local tourism industry by providing increased airline frequency and low cost airfares.

“We should also see continued growth in passenger numbers through the next few months and beyond with additional airline services planned for the Sydney route commencing in late June. This growth will provide four daily jet services to Sydney, three daily Rex services to Sydney and two to Newcastle, and three weekly jet services to Melbourne.”
