Passenger growth up 12% January 2014

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport has experienced an exceptional January with passenger numbers of 41,918 and an annual total of 382,389.

Jetstar continues to increase jet services to and from Melbourne with a daily direct jet service commencing 1 February 2014. This increase in services will provide an extra 5760 seats a month into and out of the local airport and provide a regular service to one of the region’s largest destination markets. We are on track to reach 400,000 annual passenger by June 2014 and 450,000 annual passenger movements by June 2015.

2013 was a fantastic year for the airport in terms of operation, development, business growth, planning and management. The airport has a great team ensuring the airport is well placed in terms of ongoing growth and business development. Some of the major achievements include:

  • Additional jet services to Melbourne
  • Completion of the Runway Overlay Project (see Airport Expansion Projects)
  • Completion of Business Case for the Aviation Development Precinct
  • Completion of siting study for the new fire station (see Airport Expansion Projects)
  • Installation of new lighting tower for Lennox Hill
  • Design of RNP procedures for Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (see Airport Expansion Projects)
  • Construction of pavement for the new car park
  • Construction of storage shed

Recent fires between Lennox Head and Broken Head saw the NSW Rural Fire Service utilizing Ballina Byron Gateway Airport along with Air T&G’s helicopter used for water bombing.

Just some of the many ways the airport serves our community.
