From Friday 17 June 2022, it will no longer be mandatory to wear a face mask within NSW airport terminals. However, Ballina Byron Gateway Airport still strongly recommends airport passengers, staff and visitors wear a face mask within the terminal building.
You still must wear a face mask on your flight, except when eating or drinking. Children under 12 and those with exemptions do not need to wear a face mask. Face masks are also mandatory on public transport, including rideshare vehicles and taxis. Travellers should also check the relevant state health orders for mask requirements in airport terminals in other states.
This change came about following a recommendation from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee. The NSW Government has now ammended the Public Health Order to reflect this recommendation.
