Most domestic airlines require you to be at check-in at least 45-60mins prior to departure. Please check with the airline you are travelling with for more specific check-in requirements as check-in times vary between the airlines.
For information on check-in baggage allowances, please contact the airline you are flying with direct as each airline has its own baggage allowances. Airlines often include this information on your itinerary and on their website.
Carry on baggage
Some items are classified as prohibited items, weapons and dangerous goods that cannot be carried on board an aircraft. For more information, please visit the Federal Government's Department of Home Affairs.
There is free Wi-Fi available for your convenience inside the terminal.
We want our passengers and visitors to enjoy their journey through our airport. Our Ballina Byron Gateway Airport team and airline partners are here to ensure all our passengers with specific accessibility needs travel through our airport with ease and comfort.
In the terminal
Departures and arrivals are located on the ground floor, so our passengers and visitors with a disability can move through the terminal with ease.
In transit support
If you require specific assistance whilst inside the terminal, such as a wheelchair, you can prearrange this with your airline. Your airline can also help with reserving tickets, baggage handling and other needs you may have during transit. Please contact your airline directly.
Wear a sunflower lanyard
For some, traveling through an airport can be stressful, especially if you or someone with you has a hidden disability like autism, dementia, or anxiety. Wearing a sunflower lanyard signals to our staff that you may need extra assistance. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport staff are trained to recognise the lanyard and help make your journey smoother.
Our staff can provide support if needed, but we cannot fast-track security screening.
If you haven't already done so, be sure to contact your Airline and make them aware of any assistance requirements that you may have.
There is an ATM located in the Arrivals Hall at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport.
Public toilets, disabled toilets and a parents room are located in the arrivals and departure lounge of the airport.
